Hello, my name is Julio, and I’m the company’s founder and owner. Bolivia is where I was born, and I come from a big family. My mother raised 10 of us after my father died when we were young. I decided to work and attend school at the same time after witnessing my mother’s financial struggles. I was exposed to manual labor as a child as a result of this. Growing up, our family was always close, and as we look back, this closeness allowed us to support and encourage one another. I had the chance to immigrate to the United States more than 30 years ago. I haven’t thought back on the chance since then.
I began working in the hardest manual labor I knew because I had no knowledge of the local language, traditions, or culture. I realized that I was living a similar life; I was employed full-time and attending night classes to improve my English. Despite the humiliations, I wouldn’t give up or be satisfied with continuing to be a laborer, I endured at work and school. I acquired skills in handyman work, painting, plumbery and carpentry. It was useful work, I grew to love my job, and new opportunities would present themselves whenever I learned something new.
Today, still carrying out this work journey, I am grateful. After years in this industry, I now own a painting business in addition to having handyman skills. To ensure that they uphold my work standards, I personally train each member of the crew. My clients are like my family; I have made wonderful friendships with them, and I hope to continue doing so in the future.
Hello, my name is Alan. I manage Julio’s Home Repair. Julio is my father and business partner. I grew up watching my dad work as a carpenter, painter and handyman. Growing up I’d occasionally get to help my dad with small projects for some of his customers. I was focused on my academic goals, getting into college and having a degree, so I opted for leaving behind the trades.
I went on to study business administration at Marymount University. I ventured off into a completely different career, while my father remained in the construction industry. I noticed he always had stable work, with clients who had become his friends during decades of service. It made me think how Julio had forged such strong relationships, despite the challenges he faced while adapting to another culture and overcoming language barriers. His resilience is what had impressed me the most.
During the pandemic, I decided to join and form a partnership with Julio. As a father-son business, it has been a great experience learning from him, taking on the challenges of growing a business, training our team, and coordinating projects with homeowners, real estate professionals, and business owners alike. Using my knowledge of running a business, along with Julio’s knowledge of the trades, we have successfully been able to grow our family-operated business.
I hope to continue servicing the DMV area with the skills and knowledge obtained, making sure our clients get the best quality work possible. I want to keep the same values Julio has had, making clients feel like family, while keeping our work standards high.
